How to stock your lingerie chest

Enjoy organizing, you will be glad you did it!
  • Step 1: Clean the lingerie drawer

Toss items that are old or don’t fit. Anything with holes, is stretched out, or uncomfortable has to go. You aren’t going to wear a bra set that hurts, no matter how pretty it is. You are better off starting with bras that fit, even if it isn’t exactly the style you want, they will look sexier, than a sexy bra that doesn’t fit, because you will be more comfortable.

  • Step 2: A simple variety

A good start is 3-4 everyday bras (smooth cups) that can go under anything. The colors for will need for your smooth cups are: 1-2 nude (for under white), 1 black (for under darks), and 1 fun color (now a days smooth cups can come in a variety of colors, or even have a touch of lace. So get your self a pink, red, brown, or blue everyday bra. It will make you feel sexier about your t-shirt bra).

Strapless bra, best to have a nude strapless if you budget dictates that you may only have one. It will hide under anything. Later build up to 2 strapless bras one black, and one nude. You can also opt for a NuBra for your strapless bra needs. This is my favorite option because then you have strapless/backless/halter/invisible bras all covered! Not to mention if you are like me, and lacking in the cleavage area strapless bras are generally not flattering.

Lacy sexy bras are a vital part of your lingerie wardrobe. Lacy bras are great under sweaters, and textured tops. They are also fantastic sexy lingerie. Men love a great bra set. I recommend having 1 or 2 special sets, which make you feel fabulous. Wear them whenever you can, even if it is just for you. You will be surprised how sexy you feel! Sexy bra sets are the most fun purchase to add to your lingerie collection, in my opinion.

Panties there is no such thing as having too many panty options; so long as you wear them, and they are comfortable. I typically recommend owning 2 pairs of underwear per bra. Panties can be any cut you want, so long as they are comfortable, and fit well.

Your panty drawer should have at least 2 pairs of seamless nude (for under whites), at least 2 pairs of seamless black (for under dark colored hugging bottoms), 3 pairs of athletic panties (if you are a gym rat and spend more time working out, then 5-7 pair), a handful of sexy comfortable lace/silk thongs/panties/boyshorts (these will go with your everyday bras adding a little something extra, and turn those everyday bras into a fun set. (For example if you have a plain white t-shirt bra, pair it with the Cosabella Never Say Never Cutie in white. Waala!), finally you will need 3-7 comfort panties, for that dreaded time of the month.

  • Step 3: Sort and organize

Determine where your lingerie should go. Sort your lingerie by silhouette, color and function. Keep the styles that are most worn at the front, and least worn towards the back.

Stack molded cup bras, and padded bras flat. Never fold molded or padded bra cups inside one another, or you will cause the fabric to ripple. Your bras are the biggest investment in your wardrobe; they are the items you wear most frequently. So take care of them, a good bra should last you a couple of years if taken care of properly.

Your non-padded underwire, or soft bras may be folded with the matching panties, if you so choose. However, if you fold these bras you can run the risk of twisting the fabric. So you may want to keep them flat as well. Also these sets will look more inviting when displayed flat so you can see what they are.

Place your bras in lined drawers, to keep the soft lacy fabrics from catching on drawers. Separate bras, panties, or different styles of bras from each other. Put panties in a multi-compartment divider.

  • Step 4: Final touches

Items should be separated by product category. Think of your lingerie drawers as solution compartments. Look at your lingerie items, and ask yourself “what is this items role?” For example put all support, and accessory items into a drawer together: slimmers, NuBra, push up pads, lingerie tape, stockings, and garter belts. Make sure you don’t forget your multi-compartment organizers here, so you can see everything.

Hang your chemises/babydolls/gowns/robes on padded hangers in the closet. Not only does this keep the items looking nice, but also it sets the right mood. When you pull something out of the closet on a pretty padded hanger you automatically feel special, and sexy.

As for sports bras, and exercise wear these do not belong near your lingerie. These items get really nasty dirty, require a much harsher detergent than your lacy pretties, and just kill the romance of lingerie. Keep the workout utilitarian items in another area. It will keep your lingerie something that makes you feel special about yourself, rather than reminding you to count calories.

The final touch in organizing your lingerie is to add a subtle yummy scent. You can do this with drawer liners; throw an empty perfume bottle in the drawer, or scented soaps. This will add the lightest scent to your lingerie, putting you in the right mood.

Enjoy organizing, you will be glad you did it!
