So it is that time. You are going to meet his family. You are totally stressed out, and have pulled out every item you own in your closet; and still have no idea what to bring!
I just went through this situation, and survived with some help from some girlfriends:) Now I will pass that on to you!
1. Airplane/ Car Travel Clothes: Wear a loose but comfortable dress, with flats. You can make it dinner ready with the right jewelry if necessary. Items to avoid at all costs: tight jeans, heels, or anything silk. Jeans will be uncomfortable, and you will hate yourself. Heels if you are like me, your feet will swell to grapefruits, and the shoes will be cutting into your feet leaving what appears to be wicker furniture when you take them off. Not to mention the slight limp,whe you walk. And silk, you have got to be kidding! It makes you sweat, and shows every stain, and it wrinkles, just by looking at it! Not a great first impression.
2. Bedtime: If you are staying with his family, think this through. Chances are you will be seen in your pj’s at some point. Weither it is at night time going to the bathroom, or first thing in the morning with breakfast. So…put away the sexy lingerie, and save that for a you and him trip. This one is PG all the way. This is where I found the perfect pj’s for my trip, the Claire Pettibone Tokyo tee, and Claire Pettibone Tokyo lounge pants . Cotton, cute, comfortable, mom appropriate, and even doubled as a cute shirt to wear out!
3. Activity Time: Pack some comfortable running around clothes. You can’t live in heels and cute tops. You have to pack your comfortable jeans, and a comfortable shirt. I recommend doing a tank top cardigan combo. This way you can layer. And bring cute urban shoes, or loafers.
4. Pack a robe!!!
5. Swimsuit time, don’t pack your push up, string, low low slung hip hugging bikini. The men will break their necks trying not to peek, and the women will think you are trying too hard. That said I am not saying no bikini, but if you opt for one bring one with a fuller back, and a mom friendly top.
6. Smile:) And have fun!!!
